Atlanta Hawks Agency Shootout nets new ideas and charity donations.

ATLANTA, GA — Yalo was among four Atlanta agencies participating in Wednesday night’s first-ever Atlanta Hawks Agency Shootout. The Shark Tank-esque marketing competition, spearheaded by AgencySparks, pitted Yalo, Tailfin, Modo Modo and PM3 against each other in a series of on-the-spot, Hawks-themed business challenges designed to bring new thinking to the franchise and recognition among the business community to the agencies. A donation was made on behalf of each agency to the local charity of its choice. Yalo selected Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for its $500 runner-up donation.

With nearly 300 spectators from Atlanta’s advertising and business community, the agencies went head to head in a five-minute warm-up and four 10-minute quarters. Teams were challenged to come up with the most “True to Atlanta” ideas for everything from event names and concepts to programs for the Atlanta Hawks Foundation to ways to improve the fan experience for specific target audiences. A panel of judges, including Hawks CEO Steve Koonin and seven-time NBA All-Star and Hawks vice chair Grant Hill, scored each round on a one to five scale.

Yalo’s team of four including Arnold Huffman, Denise Cowden, Anne Dawson and Kristin Woodward, garnered some top scores, praise for their ideas, with particular mention of the digital theme that ran throughout all of them, and a few laughs from the judges along the way. After scoring the first fives of the match, Yalo landed in second place at the half, but was not able to pull ahead of ultimate Shootout winner, Tailfin.

“Everybody won at this event: The Hawks, the charities and the agencies. It was a great opportunity to get out there, have some fun and flex our creative muscles for a team that has such an exciting brand and so much going for it. The fact that Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta could benefit from us simply doing what we do, but in a slightly different format and setting, was a pretty awesome bonus.” — Arnold Huffman, CEO
